The Whole Nine Yards.
Hey everyone!
In honor of Rochi I will now tell you all exactly what happened from the beginning.
Here goes:
In the beginning G-d created ...apple..........flood.... between the parts..............sold...slavery ends. Torah............................................... Exile..... Redemption......... Exile....... Redemption.................... Exile............................................................................
..................................................................... golem................... Rivky & Shmuli's wedding..(now we're gonna slow down a little)...1 month...2 months....three...4..5...6....7...8...9....91/2...93/4...???????!!!!!!!! *POP* "It's a boy!!" "Oh no!" (Now begins the narrative from my perspective.)
In the year 2007 the doctor came out of the operating room and said, "The child ingested maconium and we're suctioning it out now, then we'll bring him to the NICU instead of the regular nursery."
Well, I caught a glimpse of the baby as they whisked him away to the NICU, which as far as I could figure stands for "newborn intensive care unit" (my apologies to those who were anticipating a joke there).
The rule in the NICU, which we will affectionately (disinfectionately?) call the nicu, is that while they are doing a procedure no visitors are allowed inside. Therefore it wasn't until 4:30 am that I saw my baby up-close for the first time. At the time he was in good stable condition. They had immediately injected through IV an antibiotic to prevent the remenance of maconium that may still be in the lungs from infecting the lungs and perhaps turning into chas veshalom pneumonia.
They had also hooked him up to an oxygen tank and were supplying him with 50 s. (that stands for the medical term used to measure all kinds of dosages "something-er-another") of supplemental oxygen (room air is 21 s.) and they were monatering his heart and breathing.
by the next evening (that be wednesday) they had lowered the oxygen to 40 s. because Baby Boy Friedman's lungs were getting stronger. They got so strong that thedoctors had decideed to let him try to breath on his own which they afterwards decided was not a good idea yet. They were still injecting the antibiotics.
it is thursday morning the baby is ready to eat orally. They put a sign on his crib that read, "My Mommy is sending milk for me." He wasn't sucking so well, they had to insert a tube into his stomach to send the food down untill he would get better at sucking. (note: better at sucking? oximoron? whatever.) they move the oxygen down to 21 s.
Friday the baby is stable and they watch him as not much changes. The IV comes out.
Shabbos the oxygen comes out, Baby Boy can breath on his own. Baby boy can now start nursing. He's almost ready to go home.
Sunday the discover that Baby boy's blood salt is down. They inject sodium through a new IV. This takes three days. Tuesday the baby is healty again and they want to keep him there for 36 hours just to keep an eye on him.
Wednesday 12pm the doctor decides that the baby is doing so well there doesn't seem to be any reason to keep him any longer. Wednesday night we arrive home!!

Wow shmuli, not sure why, but I guess I'm totally honored! Thanks for the great detailed story. I must say... this baby gave us all some experience. Woah! I think he was pulling our legs - He just wants you to appreciate him even more, when he keeps you up at night... etc, etc:) Glad he's finally home, safe and sound in warm cozy hands now. Enjoy all the sleepless nights! (btw, that's not just a 'term', it's for real!)
