Zaide by the Rebbe (with Irving Stone?)

On the site where this picture (taken by a New York Times Photographer) was posted is says that this was Motzaei Simchas Torah 1964.
Lemme tell you a story that I heard by the farbrengen on simchas torah night in MN. It was in 1990 and Aharon Maimon an Israeli baal teshuvah , still on his way back to Yiddishkeit (he now runs the Bet Chabad Ledovrei Ivrit in S. Paul) had decided that after months of being by the Rebbe and always standing in the back he was going to stand where he could see hear and participate in the Rebbe's farbrengen. He came early and took a place next to one of the tables (in the center of the room directly in front of the Rebbe) and held on to the metal frame of the table with all his might. The people who owned those places came and began to scream at him and hit him, but he did not move an inch. They beat him until he bled but he would not budge. The Rebbe then came downstairs and the farbrengen began. Finally the man whose place Aharon was in said something so offensive to him that right then and there he broke down and decided that he was done with Lubavitch.
He began to push his way out of 770 when he saw at the top of the bleachers an old friend, his old commander from the army. Seeing him the commander called to him and invited Aharon to stand near him. But Aharon had no interest in staying in 770. Still the commander insisted that Aharon stand near him, so to satisfy his old friend he agreed to stay while in his mind he knew it would only be for a few short minutes.
As Aharon stood there watching the Farbrengen his heart was hard as stone, he knew that once he left here he would never come back. Suddenly the Rebbe turns and looks directly at him and give him a powerful swing of the arm. Aharon thinks to himself, "You won't get me to smile, I'm not yours anymore." The Rebbe, looking at Aharon, swung his arm again but Aharon refused to be moved. "I'm not yours Rebbe you can't make me smile." Again the Rebbe swung his holy arm and finally on the fourth time Aharon's heart melted and he broke into a huge smile.
Aharon stayed in NY near the Rebbe until after Gimmel Tamuz when he moved out to Minnesota to become a Shochet Ubodak and always doing the Rebbe's holy mivtzoyim with the Israeli kids, bringing many of them to the Rebbe and to Yiddishkeit. And we pray that in the merit of his turning the hearts of Jewish children to their heavenly father, Hashem should grant him a child of his own bimhera.
thank you Shloimele F. for you good wishes and for being so nice to your cousin Chani. Thank you Bay Fay for the phone call and happy b-day to all whose b-days are around now.
